Pamela's Ski Tips for New Skiers

Lower Body Separation

Quieten your upper body, let the lower body do the work.

Allow your feet and legs to turn while keeping your upper body facing down the hill. Your legs do the steering, not the shoulders.

Pamela Disera:

I love watching skiers that make it look so easy and effortless.

There’s a quietness to their skiing.

What it is, is they’re allowing the lower body to do all the work. They’re allowing the skis to turn, leaving the upper body nice and quiet, facing down the hill.

Again, the lower body does all the work. Let’s go for a ski. Let’s look at this.

I can quiet my upper body by putting my poles in front of it. Look at my upper body is facing down the hill. My lower body’s doing all the work. Let’s put the pole plan in here.

So now my legs are doing the work. They’re steering, and my upper body’s nice and quiet.

Doesn’t that look just effortless? It feels wonderful. That’s upper and lower body separation. Keep the upper body quiet. Allow the lower body to do all the steering.

I look forward to meeting you on the slopes.

From Snow Valley, I’m Pamela Disera.
